This is a must see video for everyone, but it’s also a great video to share with pilot friends who have never stopped to question why their pilot training specifically excludes any calculations for a spherical earth and for a rotating earth. It is quite amazing that pilots don’t pause at some point in their careers and consider that:
- They cannot possibly fly east to west or vice versa with the earth rotating at 1,037 mph at the equator and expect their return flight to be the same time;
- They could never land on a runway if the runway is moving under them;
- They constantly fly over countries that are way outside a straight line to their destination, and oddly pilots know this but ignore it;
- They don’t stop to think that they never have to correct their level flight for the false curvature of the earth.
It’s really amazing that the vast majority of pilots don’t see and realize the obvious in their flying careers. The good news is that many pilots are suddenly waking up, and once they start looking at reality and real data, they never go back to the lie.
